Chatauquas were traveling shows that flourished in the United States in the late
nineteenth century and into the 1920s. They combined popular education with entertainment
in the form of lectures, concerts, and plays - they were, in essence, a kind of intellectual
vaudeville show or circus.
Each month, Edgewood Arts will host a chautauqua, at which program participants –
resident writers and their students alike – will have an opportunity to share works-in-progress
with each other and invited members of the community. The aim of the chautauqua is
to reinforce the sense that the resident writers and StoryBoard members are engaged
in similar kinds of work, and that every writer, at whatever level of experience,
has much to learn from other writers.
The Edge will occasionally host special events such as larger-scale, end-of-the-year
performances and readings by our StoryBoard students. To stay up-to-date on The Edge's
events, keep an eye on this page or sign up for our email list by emailing catherine@edgewoodarts.org.
